14 January: the Union of Indigenous Communities of the Northern Zone of the Tehuantepec Isthmus (UCIZONI) denounces the constant death-threats directed against Juan Carlos Beas Torres.

16 January: Silvia Pérez Yesca, a member of the organization Indigenous Women for CIARENA, together with her son, suffer death-threats despite the precautionary measures she has been awarded.

17 February: a caravan to Alvaro Obregon is organized in solidarity with the people who are opposed to the installation of the wind farm in San Dionisio del Mar, Barra Santa Teresa, promoted by the multinational company Mareña Renovables.

26 February: in a general assembly, the community of Magdalena Teitipac decides to expel the mining firm Plata Real, which is a subsidiary of the Canadian Linear Gold Corporation.

8 March: several marches and events are organized in Oaxaca to observe International Women’s Day. The state of Oaxaca is one of the states with the highest increase in number of feminicides.

3 April: the offices of the Committee for the Comprehensive Defense of Human Rights Gobixha (Código DH) are raided, with clear signs of informational materials having been removed.

15 April: relatives of victims of feminicide and members of women’s human rights organizations march newly in Oaxaca City to demand justice, in light of the different cases of feminicide that have been presented in recent weeks in the state.

27 April: three years have passed since the murders of Bety Cariño and Jyri Jaakkola.

1 May: a commemorative march for International Workers’ Day is held in Oaxaca City. It results in confrontations between protestors and the municipal police, leaving 34 arrested.

4 and 5 May: the Meeting of Peoples in Resistance for the Defense of Territory is held in Juchitán de Zaragoza, in the Tehuantepec Isthmus.

8 May: two human-rights defenders, both of them members of the Comprehensive Committee for Defense of Human Rights Gobixha AC (CODIGO-DH), suffer harassment and assault.

16 May: death-threats are found targeting Pedro Martínez and his family, being members of the Coordination of the United Peoples of the Ocotlán Valley (CPUVO), on their land in San José del Progreso municipality.

16 May: the founding of the “Network of Communal Human-Rights Defenders of the Peoples of Oaxaca: Defending Territory, we Plant the Future” is announced.

8 June: members of different non-governmental organizations (NGOs) carry out the “Caravan against Feminicide”, to demand justice amidst the more than 204 women who have been killed in the state over the past 3 years.

Mid-June: Members of the Zapotec indigenous community of Unión Hidalgo, located in the Tehuantepec Isthmus, present a case before the Agrarian Unitary Tribunal (TUA) to absolutely nullify the rent contracts they had signed with the wind-energy firm Mexican Wind Developments (Demex), which is a subsidiary of the Renovalia Energy firm from Spain.

28 June: the report “Paso de la Reina“ by the Council of Peoples United in Defense of the Río Verde (COPUDEVER) and Services for an Alternative Education A.C. (EDUCA) is presented in Oaxaca. It highlights the human-rights violations (particularly of indigenous people) which have occurred since 2006.

7 July: there are held elections for the state congress and mayorships.

18 July: During the Forum “The defense of human rights in Oaxaca”, civil-society organizations denounce that the attacks against human-rights defenders and journalists in the state of Oaxaca have intensified in a worrying manner since 2012.

20 July: the body of human-rights defender Herón Sixto López is found in the municipality of San Sebastián Tecomaxtlahuaca in the Mixtec region of Oaxaca, five days after he had been reported as disappeared.

21 July: The Popular Assembly of the Juchiteco People (APPJ) denounces that state police carrying large firearms, invaded the APPJ camp in the highway to Playa Vicente meanwhile in another colony policemen and hit-men shot three APPJ sympathizers.

26 to 28 July: an international seminar entitled “Energy megaprojects and indigenous territory: The Isthmus at the Crossroads” is held in the city of Juchitan de Zaragoza in the Tehuantepec Isthmus.

13 July: Following the reaffirmation via communal assembly of opposition to all projects that violate the territory of the community of Magdalena Teitipac, the Plata Real mining company retires its machinery from the region.

1 August: Héctor Regalado Jiménez, opponent to the wind-energy projects and sympathizer of the Popular Assembly of the Juchiteco People (APPJ), dies as a consequence of the injuries he sustained due to the six gunshot wounds he received on 21 July.

6 August: Civil-society organizations publish the report “Human rights in Oaxaca 2009-2013. Citizens’ report: a pressing debt.”

25 August: members and sympathizers of the Popular Assembly of the Juchiteco People (APPJ) who were carrying out a survey of communal lands in Juchitán de Zaragoza to assess the damages caused by the construction of the Bii Hioxho wind-energy park in the area are attacked by firearms by a group of men identified as hit-men hired by the Fenosa Natural Gas corporation to protect the construction works.

4 and 5 September: the relaunching of the Totopo Communal Radio takes place although one day before, Mariano López, APPJ (Popular Assembly of the Juchiteco People) spokesperson, suffered an attempted kidnapping in the streets of central Juchitán.

10 September: the president of the Permanent Committee on Social Development, Everardo Hugo Hernandez Guzman is killed. The number of political crimes has increased to 165 during the administration of Governor Gabino Cue Monteagudo.

23 September: The Popular Assembly of the Juchiteco People (APPJ) denounces that the Spanish firm Fenosa Natural Gas and the Constructoral S.A. de C.V. have threatened to displace the peaceful camp which had been installed in the highway to the municipal agency Playa Vicente, in opposition to the construction of the wind-energy park on communal lands.

9 October: a new motion is declared in favor of the communards of San Dionisio del Mar ordering the temporary suspension of the construction of the wind-energy park being promoted by the multinational consortium Mareña Renewables in the Barra de Santa Teresa.

12 October: Marches against violence towards women and femicide take place in Oaxaca de Juárez.

15 October: infrastructure and materials of the resistance camp of the Popular Assembly of the Juchiteco People (APPJ) are burned. Since 25 February, the organization had maintained it in Juchitán against the construction of the Bii Hioxho wind-energy park.

1 and 2 November: In Oaxaca City, an altar is offered to commemorate the women victims of violence, due to the alarming number of feminicides that has taken place in the state.

16 November: Attempted arrest of Alejandro López López, member of the Assembly of Indigenous Peoples of the Isthmus in Defense of the Land and Territory (APIIDTT) in Oaxaca City.

25 November: In observance of the International Day of Non-Violence toward Women, different collectives and organizations carry out acts of denunciation in the capital of Oaxaca.

25 November: After 7 years, the Section 22 of the National Union of Educational Workers (SNTE) once again recalls the confrontation that took place between police and civil society in 2006.

28 November: the municipal authorities of Magdalena Teitipac denounce the possible visit to the community of the General Direction on Mining Regulation to verify the observance of the 2012 report on mineral exploration and exploitation although the communal assembly had previously decided to expel the mining company Plata Real and to prohibit all exploratory and exploitative work in the municipality.

30 November: the Popular Assembly of the Juchiteco People (APPJ) denounces harassament by state police and the Bii Hioxho wind-energy firm’s private security forces during a pilgrimage taken on that day on communal lands.

5 December: Olegario Víctor Ruíz Martínez and Salomé García López, anti-mining activists from San José del Progreso are arrested, thought to have been disappeared and then found in the Special Prosecutorial Office for Investigation into Organized Crime (SEIDO) in Mexico City.

17 December: The Diagnosis of Human Rights for the State of Oaxaca is delivered to the Executive power.
