PRESENCE OF TRANSNATIONAL CORPORATIONS

• Oaxaca is penultimate nationally as regards foreign direct investment (FDI). Between January 1st 1999 to June 30, 2011, it received US$ 91 million dollars of FDI.
• Investments were made primarily in the economic sectors of mining, real estate and rental and intangible personal property, and the services of temporary accommodation and food and beverage preparation.

• The first five countries with the highest investment-participation in Oaxaca are Canada, USA, Netherlands, Japan and Spain, in that order.

• In regards to mining, Canadian companies are the most present: Linear Gold Corp, Arco Resources Corp, Zalamera, S.A. de C.V. Subsidiary of Chesapeake Gold Corp, Fortuna Silver-Continuum Resources, Aurea Mining Inc, Linear Metals Corp, Radius Gold, NewCoast Silver Mines LTD, Aura Silver Resources Inc, and Intrepid Mines Ltd. Golden Trump Resources from the USA also has interests there.

• Regarding the wind corridor project in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, campesino and indigenous organizations in the area opposed to the project have reported that transnational corporations (including Spanish Preneal, Iberdrola, Gamesa, Endesa and the French CIF) have been present in the communities to try to negotiate with the peasants.
• In most of the energy projects carried out in the state, it is important to note that they are to be developed in indigenous territories in which the people directly affected have not been informed and/or consulted for their implementation. This omission has generated a series of social conflicts, and resistance processes have appeared, questioning the negative impacts caused by these projects.
