The Fray Bartolomé de Las Casas Human Rights Center and the International Service for Peace (Sipaz) will provide human rights observation during the Sixth Commission´s (Comisión Sexta) tour of Chiapas.

With the goal of observing the climate surrounding the first part of the EZLN tour, and meetings with the civil society, and being prepared to document any possible human rights violations, the Fray Bartolomé de Las Casas Human Rights Center and the International Service for Peace (Sipaz) will accompany the Sixth Commission (Comisión Sexta) during its tour of Chiapas.

For both of these civil organizations, the new peaceful and civilian initiative of the EZLN is of great importance because it generates new conditions for peace. We believe that an attack on this Delegation would constitute a serious risk, cancelling peaceful channels far into the future.

We urge the Federal and State Governments to avoid, dissuade, and prevent violent acts or violations of human rights during the course of the Sixth Commission´s (Comisión Sexta) tour of the country and the state, respectively.

The Fray Bartolomé de Las Casas Human Rights Center and the International Service for Peace will provide timely reports on the human rights conditions surrounding “The Other Campaign” in Chiapas.
